Clear River Games and TAITO announce the return of two defining adventures from the golden age of 16-bit JRPGs.
Karlstad, Sweden – September 20, 2026 - Clear River Games, a video game publisher specialising in classic game franchises and modern retro, in partnership with legendary developer TAITO CORPORATION (“TAITO”), today during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo announced the release of Lufia I & II The Sinistrals Saga, which be arriving digitally on Steam, Nintendo® Switch™, Nintendo® Switch™2 and PlayStation®5 sometime in 2027. Physical editions for each platform are planned to be announced at a later date.
Spanning generations across an interconnected epic, this new collection unites 1993’s Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and its acclaimed 1995 prequel, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. While the original established an emotional saga surrounding the catastrophic threat of the godlike Sinistrals, Lufia II cemented the franchise's legacy as one of the most mechanically inventive RPGs of the 16-bit era. Far ahead of its time, Lufia II broke away from genre conventions by eliminating random overworld encounters inside dungeons, integrating turn-based movement and intricate environmental puzzle-solving. It also pioneered roguelike design through the legendary 99-floor Ancient Cave, a procedurally generated, reset-to-level-one challenge that delivered virtually endless replayability decades before the genre became mainstream.
Combined with heartfelt storytelling focusing on legacy, sacrifice, and character relationships, the Lufia series remains a benchmark for creative RPG design, which is why Clear River Games and TAITO are bringing together these two genre-defining adventures into one definitive collection. Lufia I & II The Sinistrals Saga will be launching digitally in 2027 for Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, with physical editions for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 coming too.
