Karlstad, Sweden – September 16, 2026 - Clear River Games, a video game publisher specialising in classic and retro games, announced today that the highly-anticipated action RPG Terranigma, comes home to Nintendo® Switch™, Nintendo® Switch™2, PlayStation®5, XBOX and PC, launching physically in both Standard, SteelBook® and Gaia Editions, as well as digitally on January 14, 2027.
Pre-orders for physical editions are open today, but fans attending the Tokyo Game Show, (September 17 through September 21), are in for an early treat, with the game playable to the public, in hall 6, booth N-04 (PLAION area, inside the Happinet booth). The demo of the game will be playable in both English and Japanese, with the retail version of the game carrying additional French, German and Spanish language support.
Announced to rapturous applause in August this year, fans have been united in excitement at the prospect of the Japanese masterpiece coming to modern consoles and PC, the first time Quintet’s beloved title has been re-released since the original launch in 1995 during the swansong of the 16-Bit era.
To accompany the public playtest of the Japanese version at TGS, Clear River Games is today sharing further information on the all-new Arranged Mode of the game, Quality-of-Life additions, as well as announcing the Gaia Edition of the game, loaded with collectibles that fans of this classic are sure to adore.
A much talked about gem featuring on many discerning gamers’ ‘all-time-classic’ lists, Terranigma is lauded for its unique world-building, thematic ambition, fast-paced combat, enchanting soundtrack, and stunning visuals. A game that feels as fresh and innovative as it did in 1995, Terranigma successfully blends the depth of a traditional RPG with the immediacy of an action game, where gamers have complete control over the protagonist wielding his trusty spear to perform thrusts, jump attacks, dashes, and more.
The expressive characters of Terranigma were designed by renowned manga artist Kamui Fujiwara and brought to life through beautifully crafted pixel art. In Terranigma, the story unfolds on an Earth that exists as a hollow sphere with two sides: the external Lightside and the internal Darkside. In the Darkside village of Crysta lives the mischievous Ark, unaware of the world beyond his home. But one day, he opens a forbidden door, setting in motion a chain of events that will change the world forever...
Terranigma arrives on PC and console with several Quality-of-Life additions, as well as a brand-new Arranged Mode of the game. In Arranged Mode, gamers will find multiple tweaks to the classic, with increased magic damage, a mini map to help navigating the world easier and the ability to save your progress wherever you wish.
Thoughtful additions, such as a CRT filter and multiple aspect ratios replicating the original look and style of the game have been included, alongside numerous Quality-of-Life features which many gamers old and new alike will be sure to enjoy. Features include:
